課程概述

This course explores a biosemiotic approach to art, our body and mind. It engages with the intrigue of meaning seeking and interpreting that has been regarded as an essential point of contact between various disciplines such as anthropology, philosophy, art history, psychology and zoology. While coping with ambiguities and uncertainties in nature and culture, we may wonder about the approach or the path we should be taking so as to survive. Thus, this course draws on the parallel between our survival in everyday situations and that in the academia. Key issues to engage with include: (1) how we can make the most use of our instinct, intuition or presumption in dealing with incomplete forms or seemingly unorganized data and information; (2) how we may adjust our attitude so as to foster the ethics and approaches of working together with other minds or entities. All in all, this course encourages students to equip themselves with perspectives and skills of various disciplines with a view to better surviving the world of opinions in the arts and humanities.

課程目標
This course aims to shed light on certain aspects of theory making: (1) how we can make good use of the changing, non-adaptive and non-exclusive features of syntagmatic combinations so as to be creative with our interpretations; (2) how our unique interpretations may serve to benefit the community in forming certain disciplines or paradigms; (3) how we can work out various sorts of play scenarios while engaging in the process of truth or meaning seeking.
課程要求
Students are required to (1) preview contents for each week; (2) participate rigorously in discussions; (3) keep reading journals regularly; (4) give briefings on certain articles and topics.
